Scott C. Stein, MD

Dr-SteinDr. Scott C. Stein joined the team at Rand Eye Institute in 1991 bringing his expertise in adult anesthesia care. He accepted the position as Director of Anesthesia, complementing the team of surgeons and certified professionals from the inaugural stage of the Rand Eye Institute’s Rand Surgical Pavillion.

Dr. Stein’s commitment and experience within the South Florida area, especially with the focus in cardiovascular anesthesia has helped and saved lives of patients that have been seen under his pre-surgical health assessment with undetected cardiovascular life-threatening issues. His patient advocacy is highly admired by our community of patients both local and beyond.

Prior to initiating his anesthesia practices in Florida in 1970, he obtained his degree in medicine at Jefferson Medical University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He also completed his rotating internship and residency in anesthesia at Jefferson Medical.

Dr. Stein is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a Fellow of the American College of Anesthesiologists by Examination. He is also a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

His continued role in the field of anesthesia is seen through has various affiliations which include the American Society of Anesthesiology, American College of Anesthesiologists, Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, Florida Medical Association, and Broward County Medical Association.

Dr. Stein has lectured on the various focuses of anesthesia within the ophthalmic specialty. He was part of the creation team of the Rand-Stein Analgesia (RSA) protocol published in 2000, eliminating local anesthesia injections in eye surgery, eliminates pain, anxiety and much of the risk of many eye surgical procedures, especially LASIK and Cataract surgery.

A most recent chapter publication by the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology, shared the RSA’s protocol in conjunction with diabetes in ophthalmology.

While not attending to his patients at Rand Eye Institute, Dr. Stein’s time is dedicated to his family in Boca Raton. His hobbies include international travel, collecting intricate Karakuri wooden puzzles and pinball machines dating back to the late 40’s.
