How does LASIK work? A surgical instrument called a microkeratome creates a superficial flap of corneal tissue, which is deflected to one side. A cool beam of laser light is used to precisely reshape the cornea. The precision of the beam is controlled by a computer, which is programmed individually for each patient by a credentialed medical professional. After the reshaping process, the corneal flap is replaced without stitches, and the LASIK procedure is complete, allowing light to focus on the retina naturally and correctly. |
