Verification of a facility’s licensure and accreditation is an important step in assuring an excellent outcome. Before having LASIK done anywhere, we recommend verifying with the surgeon that:

• The LASIK procedure will be performed using true sterile technique

• All supplies are properly disposed of between patients

• All equipment is sterilized between patients in accordance with the most stringent hospital operating room standards

• The surgical facility, including the laser room, is state licensed as a surgical facility by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA)*

• The surgical facility is inspected and accredited by a national, independent accrediting agency (such as the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations)
